Panaji: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will tomorrow call on the Group of Ministers (GoM), appointed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss the crucial mining issue in New Delhi. From there on August 9, he will be leaving for US for his health check-up.

CMO confirmed that Parrikar will be leaving for Delhi tomorrow, wherein he will meet GoM. Chief Minister will place before the GoM the State Assembly resolution seeking Central government intervention to take appropriate steps to amend the Goa, Daman and Diu Mining Concessions (Abolition and Declaration as Mining Leases) Act, 1987 to enable the the mining leases, whose renewals are quashed and set aside by the Supreme Court, to remain operational upto 2037.

The resolution requests Centre to make it applicable prospectively that is from May 23, 1987 that is the day it was enacted, instead of retrospective effect from December 20, 1961. The House also wants the Centre to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957, in such a way as to give benefit of the 50 year tenures introduced retrospectively in 2015 by way of Section 8A (3) to the mining concessions in Goa.

“Chief Minister will then leave for US on August 9,” CMO said. However, there is no clarity as when will he return either on August 18 or 19.
