Panaji: In a historic decision, Directorate of Panchayat disqualified Rajani Gaonkar, Sarpanch of Netravali Gram Panchayat and her deputy Abhijit Desai for misusing their powers.
The issue was raised by Shiv Sena Vice President Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik accusing Sarpanch Rajani Gaonkar and her deputy Abhijit Desai of illegally collecting toll in the year 2017.
Naik said that during the investigation it was found that both the accused in the name of Panchayat were collecting the toll by providing false receipts, seal and also were not depositing money in Panchayat.
She said that the matter was raised before then Panchayat Director Sandhya Kamat who had pointed out that the toll was being collected illegally. The matter was later referred to Ajit Panchawadkar, who became next Panchayat Director.
Finally on Monday, Director of Panchayat Rajan Satardekar has passed the order disqualifying both the accused removing them from the post of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch. They have also been disqualified as Panch member barring them from contesting for next five years.
