Panaji: BJP Minister Mauvin Godinho’s brother Wilson on Monday moved anticipatory bail application before the District Court in connection with the FIR filed against him, a senior police officer said.

Godinho has been booked by Old Goa Police for abetment of suicide of MGP leader Prakash Naik, who shot himself dead on Friday at his residence at Merces.

Naik had named Godinho and another man Tahir in the WhatsApp messages that were sent by him to various groups before taking the extreme step.

The slain leader had unsuccessfully contested 2017 Goa Legislative Assembly Election on MGP ticket from St Cruz constituency in North Goa.

“Wilson Godinho on Monday filed anticipatory bail petition before District Judge in Panaji. The petition came up before the Judge who has kept it for arguments on Tuesday,” a senior police officer, who is part of the investigating team said.

Wilson is an elder brother of Mauvin Godinho, who is a senior minister holding Panchayat and Transport portfolios in Pramod Sawant-led government.

Naik in his messages had claimed that Wilson and Tahir were harassing and blackmailing him over the money matter due to which he had to end his life.

The family members had demanded arrest of both the accused.

Meanwhile, hundreds participated in the final rites that were performed on the mortal remains of Naik at Merces village, near here.
