Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte said that the law and order situation might arise in the state as demolition notice has been issued to ‘masjid’ in his constituency along with other structures, which has been existing since last half a century.
Khaunte alleged that BJP was trying to create “fear in the minds of people through these notices” in the run up for upcoming Zilla Panchayat election.
He said that similar modus operandi of threatening the people with notices and then trying to grab their votes has been adopted in the past by BJP.
Khaunte said that those dwellings which are issued notices, existed since last 50 years. He alleged that the fresh illegal constructions are paid blind eye by the authorities, who are issuing notices to the old houses, whose process of regularization is on.
“The notices should be issued to those who are taking up fresh illegal constructions. Where is Deputy Collector, Panchayat Minister and other government machinery when it comes to such constructions,” he questioned.
Several residents of Porvorim on Monday met Deputy Collector at Mapusa who had issued the notices of demolition. The residents claim that the Deputy Collector was “entirely in dark” over the matter, as the instructions for the same were issued from the office of District Collector.
He said that the houses which have been issued notices fall in communidade land.
Khaunte said that masjid has also been issued notice, which can provoke communal disharmony in the state.
Pointing out that all the dwellings were issued similar stereotype notice, Khaunte said that different houses have different area, but the notice mentions only one figure.
“I want to know whether Talathi had conducted the inspection. If he has done it, at whose instruction it was done,” he said.
Khaunte said that he is backing the people who are attempted to be harassed by the ruling party.
