Panaji: The lifesavers of Drishti Marine services posted at the Galgibagh beach in south Goa on Monday rescued a 25-year-old man, who was in the midst of attempting suicide in the nearby river, a senior official said.

The spokesman of Drishti Marine Services said that a local resident informed lifesavers posted at the beach about a person attempting suicide in the nearby Galgibagh river.

“When Drishti Marine lifesavers reached the spot, the person had already jumped into the water, forcing the lifesavers,” the spokesman said.

In another incident off Mandrem beach in South Goa, two middle-aged persons — a 40-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman — were rescued from drowning after they were caught in a rip current nearly 500 metres in the deep sea.

After spotting the duo in trouble, lifesaver Suraj Keluskar rushed into the water with a rescue tube and brought the persons ashore to safety.
