Cyber Criminal Arrested in Goa for Attempting to Trade Sensitive Data Online Using Cryptocurrency

Panaji: The Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, Goa, has arrested an individual for his involvement in attempting to access and trade sensitive personal data through online platforms using cryptocurrency transactions.

Based on a complaint filed by PSI Navin Naik, an offence was registered vide FIR No. 29/2025 under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The accused, Vishal Gohil, aged 42 years, resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was taken into custody on 04/06/2025 from Calangute, North Goa, during a swift and well-coordinated operation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the accused was attempting to procure confidential information and offer it for sale through encrypted platforms, including Telegram, and receive payments through cryptocurrency channels to mask the transactions.

The operation was led by PSI Sarvesh Sawant, PSI Navin Naik, PC Devendra Cuncolikar, and LPC Sneha Chari, under the supervision of PI Deepak Pednekar, ASP Akshat Ayush, and SP Rahul Gupta, IPS.

The accused is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway to verify the extent of data accessed, trace financial trails, and identify any co-conspirators or digital platforms used in the crime.
