DonaPaula: Renowned cancer surgeon Dr Shekhar Salkar on the occasion of World Environment Day has narrated the journey of a Mango tree, the sapling of which was planted by him in the year 2017.

In a note written by Salkar, he has narrated the story of a mango tree “From a Sapling to a Shade: My Mango Tree Journey Since 2017.”

He wrote “On this Environment Day, I find myself reflecting on a small act I undertook in 2017 — planting a mango sapling. At the time, it was just a hopeful gesture, a way of giving back to the earth in my own small way. I remember the slender stem and tender leaves, how carefully I watered it, unsure if it would withstand the seasons.”

Salkar said “Today, eight years later, that sapling has grown into a tall, strong tree — towering above me, its branches swaying proudly in the breeze. It stands as a silent witness to time, growth, and the resilience of nature. Watching it flourish reminds me that real change often begins quietly — with a single seed, a single decision.”

He said “The mango tree is now more than just a plant — it is a symbol of patience, care, and the incredible power of nurturing the environment. Every leaf it bears is a small testament to what consistent effort and respect for nature can achieve.”

Salkar added “On this Environment Day, I feel grateful — not just for the shade and future fruits this tree will offer, but for the lesson it continues to teach me: when we care for nature, it gives back in ways far greater than we can imagine.”

He said “Let’s keep planting, protecting, and nurturing our green companions — one tree at a time.”
