Panaji, 5th June 2025 – The Shack Owners Welfare Society, Goa, has formally submitted a request to the Department of Tourism seeking an extension of the current beach shack operational period till June 8, 2025. The usual season concludes on May 31, but the Society has cited a combination of exceptional weather conditions and increased tourist arrivals as key justifications for this appeal.
In their representation, the Society noted that favourable weather conditions have persisted, with Goa experiencing an unusual delay in monsoon activity. The absence of early showers has created an extended window of stable, pleasant beach weather—ideal for tourism activities.
Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, commented on the request “We acknowledge the proactive efforts of the Shack Owners Welfare Society in highlighting the ground realities. The Department is reviewing the request with due consideration to the favourable weather, the uptick in tourist arrivals, and the economic impact on shack operators. Any decision taken will balance stakeholder interests with safety regulations and environmental responsibility.”
Additionally, there has been a notable surge in domestic tourist arrivals during the initial days of June, indicating sustained interest in Goa’s coastal offerings even beyond the traditional season. This unexpected but welcome increase in tourist footfall signals a strong demand for continued beachside services and amenities.
The Shack Owners Welfare Society emphasized the mutual benefits of such an extension—not only for shack operators who have made significant investments in their setups, but also for the wider tourism economy. An extended period would allow shacks to cater to the ongoing influx of tourists, enhance visitor experience, and contribute positively to local employment and revenue generation.
Highlighting that the proposed extension is only for a brief period of eight days, the Society assured that all shack owners will adhere to existing tourism regulations and monsoon preparedness guidelines. The request reflects a proactive step aimed at maximizing economic opportunities without compromising safety or environmental concerns.
