Mapusa : The Lifeguards Union has begun fast unto death hunger strike since Tuesday. The life guards are potesting over non-payment of salary. Earlier Drishti Lifeguards had protested at Azad Maidan Panaji, they have been demanding that a registered society be formed of lifeguards rather tan hiring them on contract basis.

“We have saved countless lives of individuals from drowning but today the lifeguards are drowning and govt refuses to take any cognizance,” said Prakash Velip a lifeguard. Many locals of Mapusa were seen visiting and sympathising with these lifeguards sitting near Gandhi Circle. Their grievances remain yet to be redressed. Several political leaders had also extended their support to these protesting lifeguards, however, thegovernment has turned a blind eye to their plight.
