Govt doctors referring patients to Goa Medical College and Hospital unnecessarily would face consequences: Rane

Panaji: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that the those government doctors working in the peripheral hospitals would face severe consequences, if they refer the patients to Goa Medical College and Hospital unnecessarily.

In a media statement issued here, Rane has said that the medical audit of the Goa Medical College and Hospital will be undertaken on priority.

The minister’s statement comes hours after his visit to Goa Medical College and Hospital, where he witnessed wards congested with the patients.

Rane had asked the GMCH officials to shift some of the patients to nearly Super Speciality Block.

“With reference to the medical audit that has to be conducted for Goa Medical Medical College and Hospital, will be undertaken on top priority,” Rane said on Wednesday.

He said that the doctors who refer patients to GMC when the patient can be treated with the required protocol at their peripheral centres and sub-district hospital will face severe consequences.

“The Secretary of Health has been given the necessary instructions in this regard, and action will be taken accordingly,” he added.
