Panaji : River Navigation Employees Union affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today protested in front of Captain of Ports, at Panaji against the allegedly arbitrary actions of River Navigation Department (RND) and its failure to resolve the long pending genuine demands and issues of RND employees and staff.
AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonsenca said that there is a binding court order of the Industrial Tribunal on the issue of Payment of Overtime wages to the flotilla staff. “The Government have violated this court order by committing a contempt of court,” he said
Fonseca demanded that the overtime wages which are pending since the last 27 months be paid immediately. Likewise, the overtime wages be calculated as per Industrial Courts Order as per the 6th and 7th Pay Commission Recommendations; Selective harassment and victimisation of the ‘flotilla staff’ should be stopped.
The protestors condemned the deliberate entry of adverse remarks in Confidential reports of Flotilla staff employees to take personal vengence to block the promotions. Fonseca also asserted that the same staff was subjected to changing their service conditions adversely which needs to be stopped.
He also said that various allowances were unpaid which should be cleared. The protestors have also asked to deploy sufficient sailors on busy ferry-routes and finalise the Duty Roster in consultation of the Union.
The Union had made several representations to the River Navigation Department and Government of Goa requesting to resolve their above mentioned long pending demands. “However the Authorities have failed to resolve the dispute by not fulfilling the demands. We are militant organisation and we will protest till our demands are met” said Fonseca
The press note of the labour union also stated that “there is a binding court order of the Industrial Tribunal on the issue of Payment of Overtime wages to the flotilla staff. The Government have violated this court order by committing a contempt of court”
