Panaji: The Goa Tourism Department will introduce drone surveillance across the state’s beaches to track illegal activities and maintain continuous monitoring of the shorelines.

State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told reporters on Monday that drones would be introduced as part of the department’s beach surveillance measures along Goa’s coastline.

He said that drone monitoring would be used to check garbage strewn on beaches, encroachments, touting activities, and other illegalities.

Khaunte was speaking to media persons after chairing a meeting of Beach Shack Associations from across the state.

The minister said that the meeting had decided to extend the Beach Shack Policy by another year, as it was due to expire this year.

He said that beach shacks, which were required to dismantle their temporary structures by the end of May, have been permitted to continue operations until June 10, depending on weather conditions.

He said that shack owners have been asked to submit their applications for the renewal of shacks before August 15 so that licences can be granted by September 1, well before the international tourist season begins.
