Panaji: The opposition parties of Goa on Monday boycotted an orientation session organised for the Members of Legislative Assembly.

All the 25 opposition MLAs from Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans boycotted the orientation, which was organised by the Legislature department of Goa government. Speaker of Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant were amongst those who were present for the orientation session.

Pune-based Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini was appointed as an agency to give orientation to the MLAs. The two-day-long event was organised at a starred hotel in Panaji city.

Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo said that the Congress MLAs boycotted the programme as it was ‘unwarranted’ to have such an event in a starred hotel when the state has one of the best Legislative Assembly complex.

He said that he went for the session, greeted the Speaker to give him respect, and then moved out. The other MLAs of his party abstained from attending the meeting.

AAP MLA and party’s leader in the House Capt Venzy Viegas said that there was no need to engage RSS mentored NGO (Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini) in conducting such training when there is well trained staff of Legislature Department.

“There is well trained staff of legislature department who have been proactively helping the MLAs in conducting the procedures of the House,” he said adding that the same staff would have given better orientation to the MLAs.

He also questioned why the programme was organised in a five star resort when the state has well equipped Assembly complex.
