Goa increases its testing capacity, new machine installed at GMC

Panaji: Ramping up its COVID19 testing facilities, Goa on Wednesday installed a testing machine that can test 450 samples per day.
State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday visited Goa Medical College and Hospital to monitor the installation of Abbott M2000 RT PCR machine.
“A test run will be conducted after installation of the machine, post which we will start conducting full-fledged testing of 450 samples per day,” he said.
Rane said that with this new installation, it will further strengthen our testing capacity in the state and bolster our fight against COVID19.
Rane said that during his visit he interacted with the team of doctors at GMC to discuss functioning of the Abbott RT PCR machine.
“Our doctors and health workers at GMC have been working 24/7 to ensure the lab functions in optimum capacity. We are exceptionally grateful for their selfless service during this difficult time?”he said.
The minister said that Goa is one of the few states to procure the latest ICMR recognised Abbott M2000 RT PCR machine installed at the Virology Lab in GMC.
“With this, we will be able to fast track our testing process by conducting tests on 450 samples per day,” he added.
Rane said that with rising cases in the state, we look forward to building a resilient health infrastructure to combat #COVID19.
“Our aim has always been to work for the betterment of our people and to provide them with the finest healthcare facilities. With the installation of the latest Abbott M2000 RT PCR, we will be in a stronger position to detect COVID-19 cases in the state,” he added.
