Panaji: Close on the heels of announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to vaccinate everyone in the age group of 18-44, Goa government on Wednesday announced that they will host “Tika Utsav 3.0.”

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told reporters, after chairing the State Cabinet, that Tika Utsav 3.0 would be held across the state reaching out to the maximum population between 18-44 years of age.

“Through Tika Utsav 3.0, we will be able to vaccinate everyone in the state in the age group of 18-44.We have experienced that there is good response for the Tika Utsavs that were held in the past,” he said.

State government has held two Tika Utsavs in the past involving the gram panchayats and the municipal councils.

He said that the opposition parties were ‘unnecessarily’ criticizing Tika Utsav, when it has been garnering good response from the public.

The chief minister, however, did not disclose the dates for Tika Utsav 3.0.

Speaking about the controversy surrounding Ivermectin tablets, Sawant rubbished the news that the state government had purchased those tablets worth Rs 22 crore, that would have to be discarded now.

“Ivermectin was supposed to be the part of prophylaxis treatment for covid-19. We had not purchased any tablet as the proposal for the same was pending with the state government,” he said.

The Union Health ministry had removed the use of Ivermectin from the treatment of COVID-19 infection.

Sawant said that the Ivermectin tablet was part of the Home Isolation kits earlier when it was approved by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).
