Porvorim: Former Deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai sought clarity from Pramod Sawant-led government whether they will continue with the policy in Town and Country Planning Department during his tenure or it will be reviewed.
Sardesai was speaking on Demands for Grants on Town and Country Planning department during ongoing Session of State Legislative Assembly.
“I would like to know from the new minister whether there will be continuity in the policy or it will be reviewed,” the minister said, supporting the demands, despite he being in opposition.
“Till recently, I was minister of this department, and hence, despite being in opposition, I will not oppose the demands for grants,” he said.
Sardesai said that during his tenure as TCP minister, he had taken various decisions to save the identity of Goa and had even rejected several proposals which were objected to by the locals.
He said that he and his party would be keeping a watch on all the decisions taken by the new minister. “There is no investors’ confidence in Goa that is because the policies are not backed by vision,” he said.
Listing out the steps he had taken after he took over the portfolio, Sardesai said that he took a progressive decision to fix one Regional Plan, weeding out entire confusion.
He said that the amendment to TCP act was made to ensure that there is no ghettoisation of Goa through illegal plotting of lands.
Sardesai said that the provision of auto DCR helped people to apply online.
“We prepared outline development plans and now there is need to have comprehensive development plans for which you will require lot of money,” he said.
For the CDP of Margao and Ponda, itself Rs five crore was required.

Sardesai said “During my tenure, there were several pressures which I would like to speak about. There was a project by Raheja at Carmona which was coming up on the River Bank. I stopped the project. Many people had approached me giving ideas to review my decision. I did not agree. That is a challenge before you now, as they will come to you.”
HOUSES NEAR SIRIDAO CHURCH
The permission for construction of houses near Siridao Church was rejected. We protected the Church. We had withdrawn the permission after locals approach us.
RAMNATHI TEMPLE
There is NGO which is objecting to some extra steps constructed to Ramnathi Temple. They are filing several complaints and they want to demolish the temple. We have not allowed it.
HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH, MARGAO
A builder wants to come up with a complex near burial ground of Holy Spirit Church at Margao. We have stopped it.
FR AGNELO PILLAR
There was project taking shape near Fr Agnelo complex at Pillar. Locals had objected to it. We have stopped the project. You might get a pressure to restart it.
TIRACOL GOLF COURSE
We have not converted the land for Golf Course at Tiracol. We had not given it, We are watching your action.
KABRASTHAN AT MARGAO
The funding for kabrasthan at Margao has been approved. We had even acquired land under fair compensation act. We want you to complete the project. That is a major demand of muslim community from Salcette.
SECTION 16 A OF TCP ACT
You had made several statements against amendment to section 16 A of TCP Act. We want to know your stand on it now.

We created Greater Panaji PDA and when people opposed we dropped villages like St Cruz and Siridao from it. We did it respecting to the popular aspirations of the people. We want to know whether you will continue with same PDA or increase the areas in it.
