Panaji: Goa government on Tuesday filed an application for interim relief before the Supreme Court seeking to ban Karnataka from carrying any activity on Mahadayi river.

State chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the application was filed before the top court for interim relief restraining Karnataka from carrying on any activity or construction over its project on  Mahadayi river.

Sawant said that the Supreme Court has agreed to take up the matter for hearing on March 02, 2020.

On February 20, the SC had notified the award given by Inter State Water Dispute Tribunal allowing Karnataka to take up work on Kalsa-Bhanduri dam project.

The apex court in its interim order had allowed Karnataka government’s plea for implementation of final award by a tribunal for sharing water from the river.

The chief minister on February 21 had said that the state government will file an application in Supreme Court seeking to restraint Karnataka from carrying out work on the dam project.
