Panaji: The Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police department on late Monday busted one of the biggest drug rackets in the state, worth Rs 98 lakh, a senior official said.

A senior police officer stated that the Anti Narcotic Cell of Goa Police has busted one of the biggest LSD rackets in the state, arresting a person (whose identity has not been revealed) at Anjuna and recovering a staggering 1,825 LSD blot papers, valued at Rs 98 lakh in the international market.

Officials noted that this is the biggest LSD seizure by the Goa Police to date. The identity of the accused has been kept under wraps as more arrests are expected in connection with this case, potentially further dismantling the racket.

The officer explained that with the arrest of the accused, the ANC had uncovered a pan-India network involved in the supply of LSD and other drugs.

During their investigation, the ANC discovered that the accused had been receiving contraband concealed in books and photo frames through courier services in large quantities. He then distributed the drugs to customers across the country through courier, based on their requirements.

Police also revealed that the accused has been residing in Goa for the past few years and was obtaining large drug consignments through the dark net, which he supplied to his customers, primarily those in the party circuit of major cities across the country.

The official further explained that the ANC had been working on this operation for the past month and had kept a close watch on the suspect’s movements for nearly a month.

“Late Monday night, the ANC swooped down on the accused, raided his apartment in Anjuna, and recovered the narcotics,” the official said.

The officer explained that LSD, or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, is a synthetic chemical-based drug classified as a hallucinogen. LSD abuse is largely prevalent among youngsters and partygoers.

Police stated that this was the fifth drug bust by the ANC in the past 12 days, bringing the total value of drugs seized to Rs 1.25 crore.
