Porvorim: NDA ally, Goa Forward Party has become a rallying point for the divided opposition in State Legislative Assembly, who were seen uniting over Mahadayi issue.

In a rare occurrence since 2019 when Chief Minister Pramod Sawant led government injected several changes in the State cabinet, all the opposition was seen united against the government.

The opposition benches on Tuesday had given a notice to Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar for moving an adjournment motion on Mahadayi River water diversion.

All the members of Goa Forward Party, Congress, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and an Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, totaling to ten in 40-seat House, had supported the notice.

The Speaker had disallowed the motion citing that Mahadayi issue was “not a recent occurrence.”

While motion may have failed to get through on the floor of the House, the opposition members were seen united after GFP leader Vijai Sardesai, individually, managed to convince them.

The leaders like Luizinho Faleiro and Sudin Dhavalikar, who were considered as political rival to Sardesai, were also seen sharing space with him in the Assembly and also during the press conference.
