Porvorim: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today assured to investigate the encroachment into WRD property near Selaulim Canal by one Seema Dias after NCP legislator Churchill Alemao raised fears that the crusher into the encroached property is polluting the water.

Seema Dias is a kin of South Goa based Congress legislator.

The question was raised on the floor of the House by NCP legislator Churchill Alemao about the crusher operated by Joly Metals of one Seema Dias on the land acquired by Water Resources Department to construct the canal.

Responding to a question, WRD minister Vinod Palyekar said that the department had initiated action for clearing encroachment by Seema Dias of Jolly Metals on the acquired land and the demolition order was issued by the Deputy Collector, Margao.

However, Seema Dias had filed an appeal before the High Court of Mumbai at Goa against the order and the court stayed the execution of the demolition order.

Palyekar said that Jolly Metal has encroached upon an area of 4,310 square metres which is acquired by WRD.  The distance between the canal and boundary of crusher unit is about 22 metres.

Churchill placed pictures and map, which claimed that the boundry of the crusher is not even one metres away. “The crusher will pollute the water. Such water can result in kidney ailment,” he said.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar assured the House to inquire into the matter. The House did not discuss the matter further as it is sub-judice.
