Panaji: After initial delays, the foundation stone for the Cacora solid waste Treatment facility would be laid on Friday, on the occasion of birth anniversary of former CM late Manohar Parrikar.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant in presence of Minister for Science, Technology and Waste Management Michael Lobo and Minister for Power Nilesh Cabral will be laying foundation stone for the Proposed 100 tons per day (+25%) Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility’.
The project is under the aegis of the Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management and Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC).
The project set up is on an area of approx 81,000 sqm, which was an existing waste dump site and GWMC has remediated the waste scientifically and disposed the RDF/SCF to cement factories for co-incineration.
The proposed plant is on the lines of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF) at Saligao and the design has been upgraded to take into account the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and the learning from the SWMF at Saligao. The plant will have separate lines for wet and dry waste with the organic extruder being the heart of the system. The entire system will be PLC/SCADA based and will be monitored 24×7.
The plant is being setup to cater to the talukas of Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbhandora and Canacona.
