Panaji: After congress party questioned the fate of Goans who have accepted the Portuguese passport in the wake of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), the State NRI Commission has said that the bill will have no effect on the rights of these citizens.
NRI Commissioner Adv Narendra Sawaikar also said that Congress party should stop playing divisive politics.
“How & why will CAB bill divide India? It will not affect the rights of Goan passport holders before or after the CAB Bill,” Sawaikar tweeted reacting to Congress statement.
“@INCIndia & @GoaCongress should stop playing divisive politics. India had it enough. Such tricks will not work,” he tweeted further.
Congress’ Goa Spokesman Trajano D’Mello, addressing a press conference earlier in the day, had questioned as what would be the fate of Goans who have opted for Portuguese passport for decent livelihood and working in Europe in the wake of the Bill.
“So many Goans opted for Portuguese passport because the government has failed to provide them employment,” he said.
