Panaji: Former AAP Goa convener Elvis Gomes on Friday resigned from the party alleging that the local unit has been handled by the Delhi based group.
Addressing a press conference, Gomes said that the decision to quit the party has been taken after group of Delhi has begun controlling the affairs of the party, which local leaders nurtured since last several years.
Gomes, who was projected by the party as Chief Minister’s face during 2017 Goa Legislative Assembly election, said that the party has deviated from its constitution and ideology in the recent times.
He said that the core group of the party, which was working for the party for upcoming 2022 election, was completely sidelined.
Gomes said that he should have left the party earlier but decided to take the step today after much of thinking. “It is better late than never,” he said appealing the volunteers who are with the party to be vigilant about the decisions taken the leaders.
He alleged that the party is not working in the interest of Goans, but instead the decisions are taken by those who are sitting in Delhi. “We don’t want to be controlled by Delhi lobby,” he added.
