Porvorim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has told the Goa Legislative Assembly that the number of psychological counsellors in various schools from the state would be increased from 96 to 175.
Responding to a question tabled by Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, Sawant told the House that there are 66 Counsellors and 16 Supervisors have been appointed in 198 High schools and 61 Higher Secondary Schools for the academic year 2024-2025.
He said that 50 Counsellors have been appointed in Colleges for the academic year 2024-2025.
The chief minister said that the number of Counsellors is proposed to be increased from 96 to 175, in respect of High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools.
Sawant said that the counsellors provide a safe space for students to navigate academic pressure; personal struggles and Social anxieties.
“By offering Confidential Support, they equip the students with emotional well- being,” the chief minister said.
He said that the number of College Counsellors appointed in higher education institutions depends on strength of the students, in respect of Colleges.
