Porvorim: CM Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday told the House that state police has achieved 98 percent detection rate in terms of crime against women and children.

Responding to the Calling Attention motion moved by BJP MLA Michael Lobo pointing out to a murder of a senior citizen in his constituency, the chief minister said that the police verification of all the tenants has been made mandatory.

“There is 98 per cent detection of crime against women and children. There is awareness amongst the victims who come forward to file the complaint,” he said.

Sawant said that earlier, the victims were reluctant to register the complaint. “Police are friendly with the people or else there would not have been such a rise in the complaints filed,” the CM said.

He said that there is average 84 per cent detection of crime against women and children since the year 2019.

Participating in the calling attention motion, the MLAs from opposition benches including AAP MLA Venzy Viegas demanded that the CCTV cameras installed at the roadside, including by private establishments should be connected to the local police station.

The chief minister agreed for the suggestion and announced on the floor of the House that measures would be taken to ensure that all the CCTV cameras including that of private establishments should be connected to respective police stations.
