Fishing ban to come into force in Goa from June 1

Panaji: Goa government will impose ban on fishing using trawlers in the state from June 1 onwards, Fisheries minister Nilkant Halarnkar said.

Halarnkar said that that the ban on fishing using mechanized boats will come into force from June 1 onwards. He said that the ban will continue till July 31.                                              The minister said that the ban would be strictly imposed in the state and strict watch would be maintained to ensure that there is no violation.

A senior official from State Fisheries Department said that there are 897 fishing trawlers operating from different jetties. He said that all the jetties are sealed during the ban period so that the trawlers are stopped from venturing out in the sea.
