Porvorim: CM Dr Pramod Sawant has said that attempts are on to form the Delimitation Commission for the reservation of seats in Goa Legislative Assembly, before the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

Talking to reporters on Monday evening at Porvorim, Sawant said he would be making detail statement on the issue on Saturday, January 10 on the floor of the House during ongoing Budget Session.

The ST community is demanding that four of the total 40 seats in Goa legislative assembly be reserved to them during 2027 Goa elections.

The community held protests in Panaji city on Monday after which the chief minister had met a group of their leaders.

Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai had intervened in the matter between the protestors and the chief minister.

“The delegation of the ST leaders met me. I have given them the assurance,” Sawant said.

The chief minister said that their file about the reservation of seats in Goa assembly is pending with Central Tribal Ministry from where it has to come to RGI (Registrar General of India) and then after the approval of union home ministry, the delimitation commission has to be formed.

“Even during last visit to the Union Home minister, I had  told him that we should form delimitation commission and give them the reservation in 2027 election,” the chief minister said.

Sawant said that the state government’s stand is very much clear on the matter.

“On Saturday on the floor of the House I will present the factual position,” he said.
