Customs apprehend Kerala native for smuggling of gold at Goa Airport

Vasco: Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs on Friday apprehended a Kerala-origin person with gold worth Rs 57 lakh at Goa International Airport.

As per the media release, the  Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs headed by Shri Y. B. Sahare, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, apprehended an international passenger Navas (full name not revealed), Resident of Bilal Nagar, Nellikatta, PO-Nekraje, Kasargod, Kerala who had arrived from Sharjah to Goa by Air Arabia flight No. G9 492.

He was found in possession of eleven numbers of 10 Tola gold bars totally weighing 1276 grams. valued at Rs. 57.75 Lakhs approximately.

“The said 11 number of 10 Tola gold bars were concealed in the check-in baggage of the passenger. The Gold has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962,” the press note adds.

The total value of gold seized by Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs, in the calendar  year 2021, till date is Rs 2.89 crore approx.

“The whole exercise was conducted under the constant support of Shri M.S. Meena, Joint Commissioner of Customs and overall guidance of Shri V. Soundararajan, Commissioner of Customs, Goa. Further investigation is under progress,” the press note added.
