Cruise ship passengers still stranded on board as authorities conduct COVID-19 testing

Panaji: Team of medical officials on Monday continued COVID-19 testing of around 2,000 passengers, who have arrived at Mormugao Port Trust, on  cruise ship Cordelia.

A senior health department official said that the testing of the samples is still going on of the passengers from the ship. He said that the testing of the passengers was necessitated after one of the crew member tested positive for COVID-19 infection on Sunday.

The Goa-Mumbai cruise ship arrived at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Sunday.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had told reporters that the passengers would not be allowed to alight from the ship, till they are tested negative for COVID-19 infection.

Health department officials said that the exact number of COVID-19 passengers on the ship would be known only by Monday evening when the testing of the samples completes.
