Panaji: Goa’s tourism stakeholders on Sunday have kept on hold the scheduled visit of Chinese delegation to the coastal tourist state in the wake of ongoing crisis due to corona virus.

Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) President Savio Messias said that a delegation of content creators from China was scheduled to arrive in Goa on February 9 (today) which has been kept on hold due to prevailing situation following spread of corona virus.

The delegation was a part of marketing strategy planned by Goa tourism stakeholders to attract visitors from China, he said.

The content creators including photographers, models and online and offline booking experts and marketing strategists were part of the delegation, Messias said.

Goa has been eyeing for China markets to salvage its sagging international tourism industry with delegations from the coastal state participating in the travel mart held at Chengdu city.

“The plans to attract tourists from China will be on hold till the air about corona virus is not cleared. Once it is over, we will resume our promotions in China,” Messias said.

He said that marketing of Goa as a tourist destination was planned in China’s important cities including Chengdu, Shaghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

Former TTAG President Ralf D’Souza, who is also a renowned hotelier, said that China and India are the biggest tourism markets world over in the current times.

“If you see, the highest footfalls to any tourism destination are from these two countries,” he said.

“There is huge potential for Goa’s tourism industry from China but due to current corona virus scare, we have to keep it on hold,” he said.

Goa attracts around four lakh foreign visitors annually from the destinations like UK and the USA.
