Congress state unit as a cruel parody of what the party stands for: Luizinho Faleiro

Panaji: Defending his decision to quit the party and the post, Goa Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro in his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi has alleged that Goa unit of the party has become “a cruel parody of what the Congress stands for.”

 

Before addressing a press conference in Panaji, Faleiro wrote resignation letter to the AICC President has said that “led by a coterie of leaders, who prioratize personal gains over the responsibility, we owe to our people, we have utterly failed to even be an effective opposition.”

The two page letter also mentions “the Congress party in Goa is not the same party for which we had sacrificed and fought.” “It is functioning contrary to every ideal and principle of its founding fathers upheld by Smt Indiraji, Shri Rajivji and you.”

“Shri Rahul Gandhiji too has been uncompromising in his fight against the forces that seek to destroy the fabric of our nation,” the resignation letter reads.

“However, Goa unit of the party has become a cruel parody of what the Congress stands for,” he added.

Faleiro, who tendered his resignation as MLA from Navelim Assembly segment to Speaker of Goa Assembly, said “till now, there is none being held accountable for the loss of our 13 MLAs, while sidelining of true Congress workers continues.”

“I see absolutely no hope or eventhe will to prevent the collapse of the party and the change for the better,” he said.

In his resignation letter, Faleiro has also accused former AICC Goa Desk incharge Digvijay Singh, without naming him, for stopping him to stake claim to form the government in the 2017 despite the party having required number of MLAs by their side.

“I was prevented from going to the governor by AICC desk incharge and asked to wait till we had 24 MLAs, a decision that eventually cost us the Government and allowed the BJP to steal the mandate through manipulations and inducements.”

During the press conference, Faleiro refrain from revealing which party he would be joining, though he praised Mamata Benerjee and calling for all the Congress’ to unite.

“I want to bring a new dawn to Goa,” he commented adding that Goa needs a credible alternative and his resignation is a call for unification.
