Panaji: Goa Congress on Wednesday wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing state chief minister Pramod Sawant and BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade of violating the model code of conduct.
Goa Pradesh Congress committee President Amit Patkar told reporters in Panaji on Wednesday that the party has written a formal complaint against CM Pramod Sawant and BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade of violating the model code of conduct through “Vikasit Bharat” rallies.
Patkar said that they have asked the Chief Electoral Officer to cancel permissions granted to Vikasit Bharat rallies and also not to grant any further permissions.
Congress MLA Carlose Ferreira said that once election code of conduct comes into force, the Government cannot have any promotional events like Vikasit Bharat campaign.
“BJP scarfs and caps canot be used in the government functions. The Election Commission of India must stop this immediately,” he said.
Ferreira said that if ECI does not stop this, then the party will be approaching to the court seeking fair code of conduct.
Speaking further, Patkar said that congress party is all set face the Elections and win both Seats in Goa.
“BJP is rattled with the Intelligence Reports which show Congress winning in South and stand 50:50 chance in North Goa. We are confident that we will win North as well,” Patkar said.
The congress leader said that the sacrifice and contribution to Indian Freedom Struggle and Goa Liberation Movement by Congress Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt.Nehru, Sardar Patel & Goans like Puruxottam Kakodkar and others made it possible for Dr. Pramod Sawant to say he is born in Independent India and Liberated Goa.
He said that Congress has glorious history of participation in Freedom Movement, Nationalisation of Railways, Hosting First Asian Games, Establishing Indian Institute of Technology, Lalit Kala Academy, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and various other initiatives which helped in building our Nation.
