Panaji: The increasing discontent amongst people over the acute water shortage forced Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to hold meeting of PWD officials on Tuesday at Porvorim.
The meeting was also attended by Calangute MLA and Port Minister Michael Lobo, who said that it was called to “find solution for the water woes, specially that of Bardez taluka.”
“Tilari Dam’s one of the chanel had gotten damaged due to which many areas in Bardez had experience water shortage” he said.
Lobo brought to the notice the plight of Bardez Taluka he said ” We need a total 90 MLD of water supply but we are given 67 MLD. Digging up borewell is a temporary solution we need a permanent solution”
The MLA inferred that the government needs to work on pushing the water in Calangute, Candolim, Arpora, Nagoa, Anjuna, Chaposa, Vagator and Asagao. “A lot of Hotels have come up in Calangute and new ones are also coming up in surrounding areas which will need a lot of water supply hence, keeping in mind the needs of the future we need to work fast” said Lobo
The number of Engineers and Plumbers in PWD are also quite low. “To meet the demands of the future we need to bridge this gap by employing more people in PWD” said Lobo.
Lobo felt assured when he informed the press that CM has asserted that no file with regards to building infrastructure in Bardez to solve the water problem will be pending in finance. Water being the most basic necessity said Lobo we need to act quickly to solve the issue.
