Panaji, 11th February – The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) handed over memorandum to the Additional Collector of North Goa Mr. Dasharath Redker, Dy. Collector of Bicholi Mr. Sachin Desai and Dy. Collector of Ponda and Vasco appealing them to create awareness to celebrate ‘Parents Day’ on 14th February instead of ‘Valentine’s Day’ in order to curb malpractices occurring during ‘Valentine’s Day’.
Memorandum further says that, western tradition of celebrating the ‘Valentine Day’ on 14th February in India is being established since last few years. With a view to gain some business this distorted version of love is being made popular among youth and as a result the young generation is drawn towards sensuality and immorality. Under the name of ‘Valentine’s Day’ with a view to express obscene love, teasing and violent acts concerning young girls through one sided love have been reported. So also there is rise in the malpractices like consuming intoxicating drinks, drugs, smoking, etc. during the dinner parties organised on this Day. Immense sale of contraceptives shows the rise in immoral relationships. Lot of accidents take place on this day due to speedy driving undertaken to impress girl-companions. In order to curb this practices HJS appeals to celebrate 14th February as ‘Parents’ Day’ instead of ‘Valentine’s Day’. Through this gesture of celebrating ‘Parents’ Day’ publicly, young people show more respect and love towards their parents
