Mapusa: The lawyers from Bardez have claimed that they are on the verge of boycotting their work at Mapusa Sub Registrar Office due to unpardonable delays in online approval for registering of the property documents.
Mapusa Advocates Forum President Paresh Rao told GNH that the delays in granting approvals for the property deeds by Sub Registrar office and unnecessary harassment has piqued the lawyers.
“We are on the verge of boycotting the work at Sub Registrar office in Mapusa, if solution is not found to this problem immediately,” he said.
While lawyers are upset over the matter, State Registrar Ashutosh Apte has attributed the delay to the number of deeds and multiple deeds submission online by the lawyers.
Apte said that the deeds uploaded on the portal till July 27 are cleared and the process is on to clear the deeds on ‘first-cum-first-out’ basis.
He said that the same deeds are uploaded multiple times by the clients resulting in the piling up of the backlog. Apte said that due to the workload, the Sub Registrars have to finish the process of granting online approval within the available time.
“They have to go through the deeds in detail before approving it,” he said.
Mapusa Advocates’ Forum, however, has refused to accept the justification given by the Registrar. Association with its 450 member strength has said that they are “unnecessarily harassed” by the Sub Registars.
“When document is uploaded online, the sub registrar raises the queries. The client, through the lawyer, has to comply with the queries and after that the Sub Registrar has to grant approval. This is the process,” Rao said.
“But what we observe is that even after complying everything, for the final approval Sub Registrar keeps on checking all the documents and raises few more questions sending back the client,” he said.
Rao said that the law department has also made Sub Registrar authority under FEMA which has further created confusions.
