Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party has informed that its volunteers distributed more than 17,000 free food packets over the past five weeks at the three major covid hospitals in Goa. State Convenor Rahul Mhambre said that the free food distribution drive started immediately after lockdown restrictions were imposed in the first week of May, and continued daily without interruption even during the cyclone, rains and power outages.

Informing that lockdown restrictions had created severe distress to patients’ relatives who were stranded without access to restaurants or food delivery services, Mhambre said that AAP volunteers had swung into action at the three hospitals which had the maximum covid patients admitted during the surge of cases in May, i.e. North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa, South Goa District Hospital in Margao, and the GMC Hospital in Bambolim.

Mhambre informed that volunteers served food not only to relatives of patients, but also to frontline workers such as nurses, ambulance drivers and sanitation staff. Mhambre revealed that many of the doctors appreciated that AAP was able to provide this support to the patients’ relatives and the hospital staff during a highly stressful period when cases spiralled out of control.

Expressing his pride and appreciation for AAP volunteers for coming forward to serve our fellow Goenkars right from day one, Mhambre also thanked all supporters & well-wishers who made the food distribution drive possible.
