75.25 per cent voters exercise their franchise in Panaji by-election

Panaji: Total 75.25 per cent people voted during the Panaji assembly  by election that was held today, to fill the vacancy created due to demise of former CM Manohar Parrikar.

The polling which began at 7 a.m. remained peaceful with no untowards incident reported during the day.

Chief Electoral Office said that during the day 75.25 per cent people voted, which is more than the polling reported during 2017 General Assembly elections in this constituency.

The election in this constituency was necessitated due to demise of Parrikar on March 17.

BJP has fielded its former MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar as its candidate while Congress is represented by former minister Atanasio Monserratte.

Former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar is contesting on Goa Suraksha Manch ticket, a political outfit which he is mentoring since the year 2017. AAP has fielded its local leader Valmiki Naik.

The constituency has more than 22,000 voters, while polling was held across 30 booths.
