Panaji: State Election Commission on Friday announced that the scheduled March 24 Zilla Panchayat elections have been postponed, till further dates are announced.
State Election Commissioner R K Srivastava, emerging from the meeting with Chief minister Pramod Sawant and other senior official, said that the March 24 election has been postponed.
He said that the next dates would be announced soon.
The elections were earlier scheduled to be held on March 22 which were postponed on Thursday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed the countrymen to observe that day as “Janata Curfew” in the wake of Covid19 spread.
Sawant had announced that the elections would be held on March 24.
The chief minister had received sharp criticism for holding the elections during the time when country is gripping with the fear of Coronavirus spread.
