Panaji: After series of assaults on citizens by policemen, Shiv Sena today demanded immediate transfer of Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas for failing to control the atrocities by his sub-ordinates on the common citizens.
Sena’s Goa President Jitesh Kamat addressing a press conference said that the law and order situation in the State has hit the lowest ebb, with the police venting out their frustration on innoncent citizens.
He demanded that the Director General of Police should adopt immediate corrective measures to stop the atrocities. Kamat said that the first attack of this year had happened at Sanguem when Amit Naik, husband of party vice president Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik, was beaten up to avenge his campaign against illegal collection of toll at Netravali.
He said that Sena had raised voice against the attack, then, but DGP never got the acts of his men corrected, due to which the force got more audacious unleashing series of attacks, thereafter.
Party’s Vice President Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik mentioned that South District headed by SP Arvind Gawas has been most infested with this problem. “There are four assaults in a row in South District and Gawas is busy shielding his men,” she said.
Naik said that the attack on Amit Naik was the first one of the year. “Police had initiated departmental inquiry into the incident. Inquiry Officer Sunita Sawant has already submitted her report to the higher ups, some months back,” she claimed.
The Sena leader alleged that the IGP had conceded that the departmental inquiry has nailed officers attached to Sanguem Police Station for the custodial attack.
“But there was no action taken on the report. Even, when applied under RTI, the department has refused to give the report copy. Also no action has been taken against the officer Sagar Ekoskar, PSI Sudin Redkar and Constable Somesh Faldesai,” she said.
She demanded that police should file criminal case against its own officials for assaulting a citizen.
“In many of these assault cases, the officers are suspended for time being, and slowly allowed to have backdoor entry in the services,” she alleged.
Naik said that if action was taken in Amit Naik case, the atrocities against Lester D’Souza, Clint Rebello and panch member Janu Zore would not have happened.
She also demanded that the Judicial Inquiry should be conducted in all these assaults.
