Porvorim: The victory of Subhash Halarnkar from ward number 10 of Succoro panchayat has once again reiterated the control of Porvorim MLA and Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte over the panchayat.
The vacancy arose when the panch member had to resign after joining the state government.
Halarnkar was pitted against the candidates who were fielded by Khaunte’s political rivals in the constituency. The ward was reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidate.
The locals testify how all the opposition had put up their strength behind a candidate who was contesting against Halarnkar. Khaunte had supported Halarnkar right from the first day.
The result indicated that the opposition could not defeat the popularity of Khaunte.
This is second victory for Khaunte in the recent times.
In the recently held Lok Sabha election, Porvorim had given highest lead in Bardez taluka for BJP candidate Shripad Naik.
