Panaji: President of India Ram Nath Kovind will be attending the 60th Goa Liberation Day function scheduled to be held on December 19, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference after attending the meeting held to chalk out year long program to celebrate 60 years of Liberation,  Sawant said that the President of India will be participating in the cultural program that is scheduled to be held on December 19, 2020 to mark the day.

He said that the program would be held in the evening of the Liberation Day while the formal function of flag hoisting would be held in the morning. Kovind will be present for the cultural event in the evening.

The President of India will be paying floral tributes to the freedom fighters at Azad Maidan before participating in the programme at Campal Ground, located two kilometers away.

Sawant was in New Delhi last week to invite the President of India for the Liberation Day.

The chief minister said that the initial draft for the year long celebration  has been drawn during the meeting held on Friday, while subsequent follow up meetings would be held to finalise the programmes.

Sawant said that during the entire year, the stress would be given to make Goa “Swayampoorna” (self sufficient) and also highlight the uniqueness of the state.

He said that various freedom fighters who contributed for the Liberation movement would be felicitated during the year. “Those freedom fighters who are living outside Goa will also be felicitated by visiting their states,” Sawant said.

Sawant said that during the year, those who are engaged in the traditional occupations will also be felicitated as a part of the program.
