Bicholim: The utterly poor performance of Congress party in Bicholim for the recently held municipal elections have raised the question whether the party can sail through for the Assembly poll without forging ties with the like-minded parties.

BJP has managed to form a council in Bicholim municipal council, while Congress’ fight led by Meghashyam Raut fell flat. There was absolutely no fight in some of the wards with BJP supported candidates literally having a cake walk.

A close look at the results of Bicholim Municipal Council reveals that Congress candidate polled only 28 votes in ward number 8, 22 in ward number 9, 26 in ward number 26, 40 in ward number 40 and 24 in ward number 11.

Moreover, it was just two votes in ward number 12 for the Congress backed candidate.

With the political situation completely leaning towards BJP, the Congress seems to be not ready to fight the election in this constituency on its own without alliance.
