Margao: Condemning the arrest of protestors by the police in a midnight drama, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat demanded to allow peaceful protests as it is ones democratic right.

He was reacting to the high handedness of Police on the peaceful agitators at Arrosim during their midnight Vigil and arrests of students and activists at Panaji on Goa Liberation Day.

Every Goan has the democratic right to protest peacefully and raise their concerns, specially with regards to protecting identity and environment of Goa, Kamat said while condemning the police action.

Citing Goa’s revolution movement that led to its liberation 60 years ago, Kamat stated, “Goa Revolution Movement led by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Liberated Goa from 450 years of Portuguse Rule. In this 60th year of Goa Liberation, It is the duty of the Government to give liberty to People of Goa to excercise their democratic rights and allow them to protest peacefully to protect identity of Goa.”

“I urge the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant not to adopt Hukumshashi. We all must work towards maintaining the fabric of Communal Harmony in Goa,” he stated.

“Goa has history of Pre and Post Liberation agitations and all these agitations have been focus of protecting Goan Identity and Cultural Heritage,” Kamat added.
