Opposition demands House Committee on private forest land

Porvorim: The opposition benches on Monday demanded formation of a House committee to investigate the frequently changed data over the Private Forest Land in the State.

Former State Forest Minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, during question hour, said that the frequent change in the area of private forest land is “one of the biggest scam in Goa’s history.”

He pointed out that the area under private forest land has been frequently by different committees which are formed by the State government.

Sardesai said that the the recent committee has reduced the private forest land to mere four square kilometers from 21 square kilometers.

The united opposition including Sardesai, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte demanded that the House Committee be formed to investigate into the entire matter.

State Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also Forest Minister, refused to allow House Committee claiming that the matter about private forest land is pending before National Green Tribunal.

The five day long Goa Legislative Assembly session began on Monday.
