Margao: BJP’s South Goa Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar on Wednesday said that the mining crisis in Goa would be solved by enacting a suitable law in the Parliament.

Reffering to the meeting of mining dependents along with all MPs from Goa with BJP National President Amit Shah, Sawaikar said that the party is confident to resolve the crisis.

“There is a past history where various judgments are delivered by Supreme Court, High court and others. Taking that into consideration, (union) government is in the process of framing a law,” the MP told reporters in Margao town of south goa today.

“It has been assured by party president to the mining dependents that their issue would be resolved. The mining dependents have also expressed satisfaction over the meeting. The issue will be definitely resolved,” he said.

The mining industry in Goa has come to standstill since last year after Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.

The people dependent on mining industry gathered under the banner of Goa Mining People’s Front have been agitating demanding that centre should amend existing law to give new lease of life to the industry.
