Panaji: chief minister Pramod Sawant told the students and the teachers that the proposed merger between the primary schools would be executed only after taking the parents and teachers into confidence.

Sawant was virtually addressing various students and teachers during the programme “Shiksha Pe Charcha” organsed to create awareness about National Education Policy.

The chief minister told the participants that merger of schools will be done after taking parents and teachers into confidence. He said that the state government has no intention of closing down the schools.

He pointed out that due to less number of students and also teachers, there are instances where students of different classes are made to study in one classroom. Sawant said that such combined teaching makes injustice on the students.

The chief minister, who also holds education portfolio, said that the state government is contemplating the possibility of merger only in the interest of students. He appealed the teachers to work towards increasing the number of students in their respective schools to avoid merger.
