Margao: In a major drive towards the tax evaders, some of the big business houses will have their premises sealed by Margao Municipal Council from tomorrow onwards for non-payment of House Tax worth lakhs of rupees.
The drive which has been undertaken by MMC under supervision of Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik which has issued notices to 41 establishments which even includes Public Sector Undertakings, Banks, Insurance Firms, Business houses, shops and other establishments which has not been paying the house tax for years.
Some have been paying tax depending on their earlier house rents, while ignoring the increase over the years.
The teams of MMC had spanned across the city for last two days and issued notices. Some of the establishments have dues to the tune of Rs 25 lakh in the form of House Tax. They were asked to submit the documents like Permanent Lease Agreement, House Tax receipt and Trade licence to the municipality within 24 hours.
“We are starting the drive to seal the premises from tomorrow onwards. We are not going to spare anyone,” Naik said.
He said that the municipality expects to earn a revenue of Rs three crore through this drive. “This is the money of the municipality which has to come to them. We will not entertain any kind of tax evasion,” he said.
