The Beauty Therapy training was a two-month course. The training was provided by professionals from Neomis Hair & Beauty Salon, Miramar, Goa. The department of women and child development, Goa, financed the training programme.
Total 11 girls successfully completed the course and they were given certificates by Smt. Maria Monseratte, Dy. S. P, FRRO during a function organized on the 27th of August at the Government State Protective Home.
The decision of providing training in beauty therapy was to ensure that the victims learn a skill, which would help them to get employment post release from the protective home.
A large number of girls become victim of trafficking due to economic reasons. The skill training in beauty therapy would create better opportunities for employment and a respectable earning post release.
The decision of training the residents of protective home in Beauty Therapy was based on a study conducted by Arz with the residents of protective home to know their interests in learning skills and a majority of them shared their desire to learn “Beauty treatment”. Arz also conducted a survey to know skill demand in the native state/country of the residents of protective home with the assistance of local NGOs. During the survey, it was found that job opportunities in beauty treatment were good and the salaries ranged between 10000 to 18000 per month, which was good enough to manage monthly expenses.
Arz has contacted NGOs in the native state/country of the girls to assist the girls who have successfully completed the course in beauty therapy in getting employment after their release from protective home, Goa.
