Panaji: GCS is a voluntary non-profit organization, dedicated to service, education and treatment towards fulfilling the commitments in the worldwide fight against cancer.As a society, we are proud to be registered under Sections 12A and 80G, making your donations eligible for tax benefits. Additionally, we are also certified for donations under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) .
Some of the activities from the year 2014 onwards are as follows:-
1) Dr . Sharad Vaidya Cancer Screening Package (Subsidized) – A cancer screening package offered at a concessional rate.
The Cancer screening package was open for public in the month of Feb-March from 2014-15 to 2017-18 at Manipal Hospital-Goa.This package was made available round-the-year from 30th October 2018. (Presently it is available at Manipal Hospital-Goa @ Rs.1250/- for Men & Rs.1750/- for Women)
Since 2014 -23 we have spent approximately Rs.30,00,000/- & over 2000 patients availed this facility.
In the FY (2021-22) & (2022-23) total 366 patients (330 females & 36 males)availed this facility.
2) Financial Assistance Scheme with Manipal Hospital, Goa – A financial assistance scheme for treatment of cancer patients since 2014.Till date we have helped over 500 patients sanctioning around Rs.1 crore 90 lakhs,bills paid are Rs. 1 crore 40 lakhs .
For Financial years FY (2021-22) &(2022-23) -186 patients (127 females & 59 males) used this facility & amt sanctioned owas Rs.78 lakhs
3) Financial Assistance to patients from other hospitals – A financial assistance is provided for cancer patients from other hospitals .From 2016-17 to 2022-23, 43 patients have been assisted to the tune of Rs.11 lakhs/-.
During FY(2021-22) & (2022-23) total of 15 patients( 11- female & 04- male ) were assisted to the tune of Rs.4,69,000/-.Patients came mainly from GMC,Menezes Hospital –Margao,Tata Memorial Hospital-Mumbai,Healthway Hospital-Panjim etc.
4) DILASA Project – A Centre for Terminally ill at Farmagudi, Ponda managed by IMA Ponda Charitable Trust (Inaugurated on 22nd December 2018)
Apart from corpus donation of Rs. 20 lakhs against the sponsor of 4 rooms (2 rooms with 5 beds and 1 Rest Room for relatives of patients on the 1st floor and 1 Medical Store Room on the ground floor), the Society conducts Cancer Detection Camps and CME’s to promote, support and provide all possible help.
We also provide financial help to the terminal cancer patients at DILASA Centre ,since 2019-20 a total of 43 patients have been sanctioned and paid Rs.8,12,794/-
During FY (2021-22) & (2022-23) the Society sanctioned 6 lakhs to 25(Female-16, Male-09) terminal ill cancer patients.
5) Research Projects – Funding and Support
The Society has set aside a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs per annum to encourage research in cancer by the doctors of Goa or any part of the country.since 2014 a total of 7 projects have been sanctioned Rs.30 lakhs & bills paid are 19 lakhs.

6) Annual Lecture
From 2014 onwards we have conducted 7 annual lectures for general public and doctors by prominent cancer specialist and surgeons
(a) 2014 :-On the topic “Cancer-Myths & Realities” by Padmashree Dr. Ramakant K. Deshpande , Senior onco-surgeon and Director- Asian Institute ,Prof. Oncology at Somaiya Ayurvihar,Sion Mumbai.
(b) 2015:-Second Annual Lecture on the topic “Breast Cancer” by Dr.Mandar Nadkarni,MS DNB,Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology ,Consultant Breast and Colorectal Surgeon at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai.
(c) 2016:- Third Annual Lecture of the Goa Cancer Society was organized at Institute Menezes Braganza ,Panaji on the topic “Evolution of Cancer Treatment” by Prof(Dr)Jayant.S.Vaidya,MBBS,MS,DNB,FRCS,PhD,Professor of Surgery and Oncology at Royal Free Hospital, London and Professor at University College London, London.
(d) 2017:-Fourth Annual Lecture by Dr.Anil D’cruz MS,DNB,FRCS(Hon),Director of Tata Memorial Hospital on the topic “What is new in Head N Neck Cancer management”
(e) 2018:- Fifth Annual Lecture by Dr.Rajesh Mistry Director –Dept of Oncology & Consultant Surgeon,Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on the topic “Let’s Talk cancer”
(f) 2020:-Sixth Annual lecture on the topic “Growing Burden of Cancer in India” at GMC-Goa by Dr.Mohandas K.Mallath, Head of Digestive Diseases (Oncology), Senior Consultant Tata Memorial Hospital, and Kolkata.
(g) 2022:-Seventh Annual Lecture by Dr.Shashikant Aapte,MD FRCP Head of Hematological Cancer & Bone Marrow transplant at Sahyadri Hospital,Pune.Topic “Bone Marrow Transplant”
Since 2014 approximately 5 lakhs are spent on these 7 annual lectures.
7. Cancer Detection Camps- From 2014 onwards we have conducted 28 cancer detection camps in remote & rural parts of Goa screening over 2000 patients spending is approximately 5 lakhs.
In FY (2021-22) & (2022-23) 8 awareness camps were conducted amt. spent is Rs.86,520/-
8. Make a wish foundation- We work in collaboration with Make a wish Foundation India fulfilling wishes of cancer kids. Till date we have paid 4.5 lakhs fulfilling wishes of around 54 children. Usually the items gifted are laptops, bicycles, toys, tablet etc
FY( 2021-22) & (2022-23) we have paid 3 lakhs fulfilling wishes of 43 kids
Mr Dempo inaugurated the goa cancer society website today and annual report card also released.
