Panaji: Even as Goa government is readying for Rs 50 Crore make over to the Kala Academy, the huge expenditure has raised eye-brows from the artists.

State Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said that such an expenditure is necessary  as the building requires special care.

“The building is located on the bank of River Mandovi and it requires special care. While renovating the Kala Academy the acoustics and flooring will most likely be damaged hence we need to repair these too” added Gaude.

He also informed that “600 and 300 sitting capacity sitting auditoriums need to be constructed , the black box will retain its originality. The auditoriums have the problem of water flooding which needs intervention”, Gaude asserted.

He is looking forward to commence the work from 2nd April.  “Within 11-12 months we want the work to be completed, different materials will be imported and monsoon can also likely cause delay but our aim is to finish the work by 12 months”, said Gaude. The minister concluded by informing that he will be coordinating between various artists from Goa while undertaking the renovation.
